Emergency Guide Book
To: ALL RESIDENTS, BUSINESS PERSONS AND VISITORS Lanark, Leeds & Grenville Counties
In 1998, an Emergency Preparedness Guidebook was created to assist communities with the possibility of future ice storms or similar emergencies. While we are thankful that we have not experienced another ice storm, the potential certainly exists for other dangerous situations, which can be mitigated through a combination of individual and/or collective pre-planning.
The Safe Community Coalition of Brockville & District, in partnership with the Safe Communities Partnership of Perth and District, has prepared a 2nd edition of the Emergency Preparedness Guidebook with the assistance of the Brockville Recorder & Times. The future has many new potential challenges, including threats of terrorism, weather abnormalities and other disaster situations that must be considered by each of us. It is important that the best resources be made available, compiled into this easy to read guide for all citizens and businesses within Lanark, Leeds & Grenville counties.
Our community partners for this project include police services, fire departments, hospitals and health units, social services and many other organizations who work together with emergency service providers. The information provided within this guidebook is current, at the point of publication (2002), and offers the best available, easy to read, basic information. Readers will also find helpful tips and phone numbers. We urge everyone to read this guidebook carefully and keep it handy. Hopefully we will never again experience another ice storm, a security breach, or other potential disaster.
The goal of Safe Communities is to make our towns and cities the "Safest" in which to live, learn, work and play in Canada. This Emergency Preparedness Guidebook will better prepare our citizens to help us achieve this vision.
The sponsors and advertisers who contributed to the printing of this guidebook are civic minded corporate citizens and we appreciate their support and urge readers to acknowledge them.
